$LGC - BUY

By Johnny Fishman

Stock Update:

Unfortunately, Logic's 30-song retirement album, Vinyl Days, got swept under the rug as it released the same day as Honestly, Nevermind. As a big Logic fan, I had high expectations for this album, as I believed Logic would do everything in his power to retire on a high note. Fortunately, after listening to this album front to back, I can confidently say that Logic shattered all expectations I had. Vinyl Days is absolutely incredible. It features some of the best lyricism we have ever heard from Logic. Whether his witty line, "steady in the gym, all curls like I'm Hasidic" on "Introducing Nezi" or a Notorious B.I.G. homage on "In My Lifetime" when he says "Like Christopher Wallace, my shit flawless," Logic raps at the highest level on every track. If you want to see for yourself, check out Logic's verse on the song "Breath Control." Aside from the lyricism, the production on this album is incredible. Like Kanye, Logic is one of the few rappers in the game who produces their own beats with little to no help. On this project, Logic's samples are highly polished and nearly perfected. Check out the sample on "Quasi," LaDonda," and "Orville" to name a few. Throughout the album, Logic pays homage to some of raps best, including Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, MF Doom, and legedary hip-hop producer Madlib. As a fervent Wu Tang Clan fan, "Porta One" featuring Wu Tang's iconic RZA has to be my favorite song on the project. The sample comes from "Bring Da Ruckus" off of Wu Tang's Enter the Wu-Tang, which in my opinion, is hands down a top 10 rap album of all time. Vinyl Days is Logic's most gritty hip-hop album he has. He said in an interview with music reviewer Anthony Fantano that he made this album solely because he wanted to go back to the basics of rap and make a hard-hitting, sample heavy hip-hop album. This is some of Logic's best work, and he could not have went out of the rap game in a better way. Although this was Logics last project (or at least he says it is), buy LGC. Vinyl Days will endure through the years as a great hip-hop album.
